SCORM-ization support

SCORM support will be a great benefit to both parties, as administrators will be able to monitor the comprehension of individual students through an open source LMS (e-learning system) and students will be able to monitor their own progress.

What is SCORM?

Explanation of SCORM (Excerpt from the Japan E-Learning Consortium's glossary)
SCORM is a standard that specifies the interface and data format between an e-learning platform (LMS) and content. The latest version is SCORM2004 (as of March 2006).
In addition to displaying a screen in HTML like a normal website, e-learning logs (records) such things as study time, the grading of exercises, and study time. The program that implements these functions is called an LMS, but if the specifications of the LMS differ from developer to developer, it will be difficult to port the learning materials (contents) to other LMSs.
In order to solve this problem and promote sharing, the idea was born to separate the functions common to all learning materials from the functions unique to each learning material, and to put the common parts on the LMS (Learning Management System) and develop the unique parts as learning material contents. To separate LMS and content, the interface and data format between them must be defined. SCORM is a standard that specifies the interface and data format between LMS and content, and was created by an American organization called ADL.
In SCORM, content consists of a hierarchical course structure loaded into the LMS, a Shareable Content Object (SCO) executed on the Web client, and metadata attached to the course structure. If the SCORM standard becomes widely used, users will be able to use materials from many content vendors in their LMS, and content vendors will be able to use their own content on other vendors' platforms. In contrast, content vendors will be able to expand the sales channels for their content without incurring costs, since their content will be available on other vendors' platforms as well. Standardization is thus an essential element in realizing low-cost, high-quality e-learning services.
